Scholastic and Mentoring

I have a wealth of experience as a tutor and researcher; I am keen to encourage and facilitate the creativity of others and share my own practice-based research through a strongly reflective approach.

I founded the pioneering Textile Art Department at Winchester School of Art, University of Southampton (1991-2006).  After several years teaching on the MA Textiles Practice program at Goldsmith’s, University of London I moved to the University for the Creative Arts, where I held the post of Reader in Textiles (2013-2023).  I taught across all levels of Higher Education, from Foundation to Research Degrees plus roles at management and strategy levels.   As a Reader in Textiles, I was an active researcher and mentor to early career researchers. My research outcomes received international-level recognition in the 2001, 2014 and 2019 Research Excellence Framework.

I have taught at numerous universities within the UK, in Australia, Japan and Norway, at undergraduate and postgraduate levels. I have acted as an advisor and jury panel member on many occasions, including the Wellcome Trust’s Sci-Arts program (textiles), as External Advisor for degree validations, External Examiner for a range of degree programs, as well as contributed to grant, competition and exhibition panels.

I currently hold the post Emerita Reader in Textiles at the University for the Creative Arts.

I am now offering Mentoring Sessions.

Over the last year I’ve started working with two artists who have Arts Council DYCP and Project Grants.

I am also very happy to do one off sessions. These can be done over Zoom or come to my studio in Ramsgate, Kent.

An hour session is £60. Please get in contact if you would like to discuss further or have any questions.
